Our elementary reporting system reflects curriculum and practice,
communicates grade level expectations, and reports student progress
three times a year. We adopted trimesters during 08-09 school year. Our
goal is that students will achieve the learning outcomes listed on the
report card by the end of the year.
In addition to letter grades, we use the following criteria on report cards:
- P: Proficient
- W: Working Toward
- N: Needs Improvement
- AC: Adjusted Curriculum
- IP: In Progress toward IEP Goals (Individualized Education Program)
- NP: Not progressing towards IEP
Every student is expected to make progress toward
achievement of the core curriculum . However, students may vary in the speed or extent of the
achievement. Brown teachers use thorough assessment tools and
strategies to help measure student progress.
To best meet your child’s needs, we assess student
learning in a wide variety of ways including teacher observation,
checklists, projects, rubrics, work samples, tests, and demonstrations.
Teachers use report cards to document student progress. Teachers will
also communicate about your student’s development through other
methods. Fall conferences provide all parents with direct communication
with the teacher, and a simple phone call or email is always welcome!
Copies of our new report cards can be viewed in the parent information section on this website.
Parents at Brown are excellent partners in promoting
student success. Attending conferences, Open House, curriculum nights,
and maintaining ongoing communication with the teacher and the school
helps your student learn. Helping students maintain good school
attendance is of utmost importance, too. Our students benefit because
schools and parents work together!
